Digital measuring device for soil moisture (dryness) in containers
Measuring moisture is a reliable decision-making aid for correct watering, especially for larger potted plants and individual plants in the ground, for example in conservatories or greenhouses.
It is not possible to assess the moisture inside the pot or in the root area in general with the naked eye or by touching the surface (the surface may be dry, but there may still be sufficient moisture inside). Watering is then usually done by feel or only when the plants are wilted. This causes stress and impairs growth.
The so-called tensiometer measures or indicates the suction force with which the plant roots have to absorb water. This force (measured as negative pressure in the tube, displayed in mbar) is a measure of moisture: high value = dry, low value = moist. The measuring range is 10-750 mbar, with typical values in the range of 100-300 mbar. The sensor can measure moisture in all soils and peat-containing soils or even in clay granulates that are not too coarse.
Sensor length approx. 24 cm, maximum insertion depth approx. 18 cm
Scope of delivery:
- 1 measuring head with sensor base (complete sensor)
Is the Blumat Digital waterproof and airtight?
No. The 3 screws on the underside are not sealed so that pressure can be equalised. This is technically necessary for accurate measurement results.
The display of my Blumat Digital has fogged up inside. What is the reason for this?
Air humidity also enters the interior with the air. This can condense on the display, especially when the temperature drops quickly. This is normal behaviour and does not affect the function. The display usually dries by itself as the temperature rises. If this is not sufficient, place the Blumat Digital in a warm and dry environment. Unscrewing the Blumat Digital will speed up the drying process.
My Blumat Digital fell into water, what should I do?
Water may have entered through the 3 screws on the underside. Unscrew the Blumat Digital, remove the battery and wait until everything is dry again. Then close the Blumat Digital soil moisture sensor again and check that it is working.
